TCE turns TUI Airline’s cargo capacity into commercial opportunity

TCE is helping passenger airline TUI Airline unlock the freight potential of its leisure network, bringing sales, operations and compliance together to build a cargo business alongside its established holiday services.

Since January 2019, TCE has provided the specialist organisation behind TUI Airline’s cargo offering. Its responsibilities span commercial development, customer management, booking coordination, operational support, quality assurance and security requirements, giving the airline an integrated cargo capability while its teams concentrate on their core passenger business.

The partnership addresses a clear opportunity: aircraft connecting holidaymakers with their destinations can also provide capacity for airfreight. Turning that space into a dependable commercial product requires dedicated expertise, customer relationships and coordination across the cargo operation.

Sarah Scheibe, Managing Director of TCE, said: “Aircraft capacity creates an opportunity, but expertise turns it into a business. We bring together the commercial relationships, operational coordination and compliance support that TUI Airline needs to develop its cargo activity. Our role is to make the airline’s capacity accessible to freight customers through a professionally managed service.”

TUI Airline identified cargo as an increasingly important means of maximising the value of its network and responding to demand for reliable airfreight solutions. Supporting that ambition required a partner able to manage the business beyond the initial sale.

TCE acts as an extension of the airline’s organisation, connecting sales and marketing with customer service, capacity management and operational execution. This structure helps align the commitments made to customers with the practical requirements of carrying their shipments.

Its commercial remit includes business development, customer management and booking coordination. These activities are supported by operational expertise that links customer enquiries and confirmed bookings with the processes required to move cargo through the airline’s network.

For customers and handling partners, TCE provides a dedicated point of contact and coordinated support. For TUI Airline, it supplies specialist resources across functions that would otherwise require an equivalent internal organisation.

Scheibe said: “A successful cargo product depends on every part of the operation working together. Customers need clear communication, handling partners need effective coordination and the airline needs confidence that its requirements are being met. By managing these activities within one organisation, we help maintain continuity from the first enquiry through to operational execution.”

Quality and security form a central part of that approach. TCE manages cargo quality activities, coordinates audits and supports compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including ACC3 validation processes where required.

These responsibilities help ensure that commercial development is supported by appropriate operational standards. Sales opportunities are considered alongside the quality, safety and security processes needed to deliver a consistent service.

The integrated model also gives TUI Airline a framework for assessing its cargo business against verified operational and commercial data. Volumes, revenue, capacity utilisation and service performance provide measures for evaluating development and identifying further opportunities.

TCE’s contribution is therefore both commercial and organisational. Its market relationships support TUI Airline’s reach among freight customers, while its operational and compliance expertise provides the structure needed to manage the resulting business.

The cooperation will continue to underpin TUI Airline’s cargo strategy, with TCE remaining its key partner in developing freight activity and making better use of available network capacity.

Scheibe said: “Our partnership with TUI Airline has developed through sustained cooperation and a shared focus on making cargo work within a passenger airline environment. We will continue building on that foundation, identifying commercial opportunities while maintaining the operational discipline, quality assurance and security oversight that support long-term development.”

For TCE, the relationship demonstrates the value of managing cargo as a connected business. Bringing commercial activity, customer support and operational expertise together gives TUI Airline the resources to pursue freight opportunities alongside its leisure operations.

The next phase will build on the structure established since 2019, using TCE’s expertise to connect available capacity with customer demand and support the continuing development of TUI Airline’s cargo offering across its network, backed by coordinated management and consistent standards.
